Privacy Policy

I am committed to safeguarding the privacy of my website visitors.

Policy Last updated: Nov 25, 2021

I, Olivia Rutt, under my business Nitpics Photography, operate https://mywanderingvoyage.com, which is registered in Canada. By using the site, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this policy.

What and when do I collect personal information from the people that visit my website?

I collect personal information when you volunteer your name and/or email for the purposes of following my blog via newsletter or through social media websites. If you respond to a survey, comment on a blog post or otherwise enter information on this site, information is collected.

Data may also be collected for purposes of analytics. Please see below for further information about this type of data.

How do I use your information?

I may use the information collected from you by personalizing your experience, to improve the website in order to better serve you, to administer a contest, promotion, survey or other site feature and/or to send periodic emails regarding the site or other products and services.

Be aware I will never sell or trade your information, and if at any time you want to unsubscribe from any email communication, you can do so by using the link at the bottom of each email.

I may use your information to contact you with newsletters, marketing or promotional materials and other information. I will always get your consent first, before doing so.

Protecting your information

The security of your personal information is important to me, but remember that no method of transmission over the Internet, or method of electronic storage, is 100% secure. While I strive to use commercially acceptable means to protect your personal information, I cannot guarantee its absolute security, although I use tools to see it as secure as possible.

In the event of a breach, you will be notified within 72 hours.

Information collected through social media sites are governed by their own set of privacy policies and I encourage you to read those before engaging.

‘Cookies’

Like many site operators, I collect information that your browser sends whenever you visit this site. Cookies are small files that a site or its service provider transfers to your computer’s hard drive through your browser, if you allow it. Cookies are used for authentication, status, security, personalization, advertising and analytics. This data may include information such as your computer’s Internet Protocol (“IP”) address, browser type, browser version, the pages of the site that you visit, the time and date of your visit, the time spent on those pages and other statistics. In addition, I may use third-party services such as Google Analytics that collect, monitor and analyze this.

You can choose to have your computer warn you each time a cookie is being sent or you can choose to turn off all cookies through your browser settings. Blocking cookies can have a negative effect on the usability of my website.

Mediavine Ads

Contact Form 7

In order to better connect with readers, I have two contact forms. One on my contact page and the other on the My Wandering Postcard page. Both of these pages use the Contact 7 plug in. According to the developer, Contact Form 7 doesn’t store submitted messages anywhere. Submissions to the contact forms go directly to me through email. Submissions are only visible within the back end of my site. By contacting me, you agree to allow me to contact you back. Submissions through these contact forms are not added to any mailing lists I operate. Submissions are not kept for longer than 14 months.

Updraft Plus

To better protect my site from being deleted or completely erased, I use a plug in called UpDraft Plus. It backs up the content on my site and saves it to a secure Google Drive. This happens every week and as new backups are uploaded, the old ones are deleted. According to its website, UpDraft Plus does not collect the data that is being backed up. This is strictly my information about my apps and content that is being stored, but I thought I would let you know that it is being done, in order to be extra careful.

Akismet Anti-Spam

To better protect my site, I use Akismet Anti-Spam to filter out spam comments. By May 25, Akismet Anti-Spam will be in compliance with GDPR. Until then it has mentioned that “the only information sent to Akismet when a comment is tested for spam is information that the commenter provided: their name, email address, site URL, and comment (plus other non-personal information like the current time, etc.). This information is not transferred to any non-Akismet servers.” I will be updating this section once I hear more about how Akismet Anti-Spam is compliant. This applies only for my contact forms.

Comments

In order to comment on any of my blog posts, you are required to input your name and email. I do not use this information for any other purpose other than to moderate comments. If you decide you want to remove your comment, you can contact me with the post and comment and I will remove it for you.

iThemes Security

This plugin is to ensure that my site does not get hacked. As far as I understand IP addresses are only collected if you are trying to access my site maliciously. They are not used for any other purpose than to block these addresses from trying to gain access to my site.

The latest update from iThemes Security said it is waiting for WordPress.org to release GRPR compliance requirements. Once this happens, they will adjust their products to be compliant. Once this update happens, I will revise this section.

Yoast SEO

I use Yoast SEO to optimize my site for Google searches. At this moment the only data Yoast SEO collects is my own. But, in the abundance of caution, I have listed that I use them for that purpose. Yoast SEO has stated, “Our WordPress SEO plugins do not collect any personal data that affect the GDPR regulations.” The plugin is currently working to be compliant with regulations for my data and I will update this section further as details arise.

Retaining and deleting data

Personal data shall not be kept longer than is necessary for that purpose. The period of retention is 14 months unless otherwise stated.

You can request a copy of the data I have collected from you by emailing me at mywanderingvoyage {at} gmail {dot} com. You can also request the deletion of data by contacting me as well.

You have rights under data protection, including the right to access, rectification, erasure, restrict processing, object to processing, data portability and withdraw consent.
